Eloge du Chardon (In Praise of the Thistle)
Portrait of philosopher and writer André Glucksmann, who grew up during the Second World War. A member of the Communist Party at the age of 14, he became a Maoist activist after the events of 1968, before becoming associated with the “new philosophers” movement. At 75, the author of La Cuisinière et le Mangeur d’hommes has lost none of his youthful rage. He talks about his career, the causes that are close to his heart and the intellectuals who have marked his life, such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Michel Foucault and Anna Politkovskaya, and continues to speak out against war and totalitarianism.

Tengri, le bleu du ciel (Tengri, the blue of the sky)
A nomadic love story in the heart of today’s Central Asia, amid the rubble of Soviet rule and the renaissance of nationalities. A young Kyrgyz girl and a Kazakh sinner each try to escape a dead-end story; they manage to find each other and try to conquer their freedom. Breaking away from, and at the same time continuing, ancient traditions, their love story takes them through valleys, mountains, steppes and towns, following the course of the dried-up rivers that once brought life to the land, to their new world: between East and West. They try to invent a place where it would be good to love each other, on earth or in Tengri, the blue of the sky… The mountains are full of ravines and the roads full of ambushes… Where will they get to?

Yönden
In 1992, Marie Jaoul de Poncheville shot a film in Mongolia, “Molom, conte de Mongolie”, a traditional Mongolian tale about a child and a shaman played by the late actor Tsededoi. Nine years later, she returned to see the child in her film and paint a portrait of him.
He is 17 years old. Throughout their nine-year separation, they kept in touch thanks to Dr Alain Cantero. Alain Cantero regularly cares for nomads in this region, and in 2001 set up a care caravan that travelled from Karakorum to Lake Kövsgöl. Yönden lives in the South Kangai region, near Karakorum.
The young man now looks after his family. The film shows Yönden in his family life and in his responsibilities as expedition leader of the caravan whose journey we film. We film the life of a young Mongolian whose sense of responsibility is formidable and whose joie de vivre immense. Molom had greatly contributed to our knowledge of this magnificent country. We hope that the film Yönden will also contribute, in a more contemporary way, to getting to know this country through the portrait of a remarkable young man.

La Projection (The Projection)
Filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako returns to Sokolo, the small village in Mali where he shot “Life on Earth”, with the desire to screen the film to share with the villagers this moment of cinema in which they had been the actors and of which they will become the spectators. The film “La projection” is the director’s discreet witness in Sokolo during the screening of his film “La vie sur terre”. It’s not just a screening, but the act of sharing, of giving back to those who played in this film what they gave. The screening is a look at the relationship that has developed between the village and the film crew, and the responsibility the filmmakers have taken on to raise awareness of the life of this small village.
